The Miracle is Now

Each night during a week in the heart of winter, Jews light candles by their windows, to remember an ancient story from the kingdom of Judah: how a small group of priests rose up against a mighty empire; how the Jerusalem Temple was rededicated; And how a single cruse of oil lasted eight nights.​

But what if Chanukah was not only a story about then?

What if it is also a story about now?

 

The Chasidic master Kedushat Levi teaches that Chanukah is not merely a commemoration. It is a season in which miracles renew themselves — a time when hidden light becomes visible again,

when what seemed exhausted reveals new possibility.

Chanukah invites us to ask:
Where is the oil still burning in our lives?
Where is there light we have forgotten to notice?
What might be rekindled?
