Description

Studying the weekly Parasha (Parashat-ha-Shavuah) is one of the most fundamental Jewish Spiritual practices. Each week, Jews are invited to dive into texts which, beyond the imprint of time, tell us something timeless about ourselves and how we can grow into our full potential as human beings in the image of God. The wisdom of the text is not always available at first glance. It demands us to work with it. And through it, Torah study becomes a process of self-transformation through the meaning and insights that are generated by a collective reading. As most Hasidic Masters, the Meor Enayim offers an interiorized reading of outer events: enslavement in Egypt, the exodus, and the wandering in the desert become the metaphors of our own inner journey through life and the potential of growth that is within each of us. Exploring motives such as “constriction and expansion,” “the exile of awareness,” and “inner freedom,” going down to come up better, and other central ‘Hasidic themes. Reb Menachem Nachum of Tchernobyl (1730-1797) invites us, through his luminous comments on the text, to explore and connect to the possibility of Teshuvah (return) and Tikkun (repair) in our own lives. Structure & Schedule Each class comprises text study, sharing by the participants in break-out rooms and all together, a short moment of meditation/reflection, and prompts for spiritual practices at home in between sessions. The course consists of 11 classes of 60 mn for each of the Parashot of the book of Shemot. Recordings will be available for those unable to attend live sessions. The classes will meet on Wednesdays at 8am Pacific / 11pm Eastern / 4pm UK / 6pm Israel.
